COFFE, TEA and DIABETES TYPE II

According to results of meta-analysis of 18 studies (1966-1969), from Australia, Paris, New York, Ireland, involving over 500 000 participants the daily intake of 3-4 cups of decaffeinated coffee or tea, decreases the risk of developing diabetes II, in 1/3 and 1/5 respectively. The effect is such that the adding of a cup of coffee was associated with an additional reduction (7%), of the risk of developing diabetes. Rachel Huxley, research’s leader said that some studies (the smallest), may have overestimated the true magnitude of the association and that the protective effect of infusions warrants further investigation. Some compounds such as magnesium or antioxidants (chlorogenic acids and lignans) may be involved.
