WORDS AND GESTURES: SAME NEURAL UNIT

By means of studies of functional magnetic resonance (MRIf), Jiang Xu, Allen R. Braun and a team of researchers (National Institute on Deafness and Brain Imaging and Modeling Section, Bethesda USA), established that brain areas, where seat verbal and gestures communications are the same. In other words at the same time that gestures reinforce words they are also dispensable, opening ways to an universal virtual symbolic language but there of the one developed by deaf-mutes. The authors sustain that perysilvian cortex areas are receivers of an unique neural system able to work as independent semiotic unit in human communication, uniting meanings and symbols, words, expressions (to thread a needle, to accommodate lips expressing silence), images, sounds or objects. Everything indicates that evolutionarily, first was the virtual representation, then gestures and finally the words.

Mediante estudios de resonancia magnetica funcional (MRIf), Jiang Xu, Allen R. Braun y un equipo de investigadores (National Institute on Deafness and Brain Imaging and Modeling Section, Bethesda USA), han comprobado que las areas cerebrales, donde asientan las comunicaciones verbales y las gestuales son las mismas. En otras palabras al mismo tiempo que los gestos refuerzan las palabras son también prescindibles, abriendo paso a un lenguaje simbolico virtual universal mas alla del desarrollado por los sordomudos. Los autores sostienen que las areas corticales perisilvianas anterior y posterior son depositarias de un sistema neural único capaz de funcionar como unidad semiotica independiente en la comunicacion humana, uniendo significados y simbolos sean estos palabras, gestos (ensartar una aguja, acomodar labios expresando silencio), imágenes, sonidos u objetos. Todo indica que evolutivamente primero fue la representación virtual, luego el gesto y finalmente las palabras.
