SEMANTIC WEB

Following a natural evolutionary process and increasing pressures of highly specialized users, the web is ready to give a small but momentous step in forging a universal and intelligent library, different to those current, giant and antediluvian that stored printed books. Rather than having a universal SuperLibrary in each house, the semantic web is poised to meet our growing needs. Using ontologies, formal representations of concepts, relationships between these, links to related websites, podcasts, multimedia, digital images, videos, semantic tags attached to items. Ability to review and correct information when needed, to understand different words expressing the same ideas. Some use this type of web at snail's pace according to available technology.

Although the goal is to have a semantic web to read, understand and categorize the information beyond our requests, this requires a level of AI, not yet available. Deborah McGuinness (Tetherless World Constellation) and Jim Hendler (Rensselaer Computer and Cognitive Sciences), argue that the current goal is to visit a site, write the required information leaving to the software of ontology and semantics, the rest. Massive databases need to develop more accessible information ontologies (prepacked). It should be a change in how the catalogs organize your data to provide to highly specialized investigators their requirements, a search more intuitive with questions in natural language, given the heterogeneity of different databases. One goal is to share resources and establish collaboration between different scientific disciplines, interconnected every second.

LA WEB SEMANTICA

Siguiendo un natural proceso evolutivo y crecientes presiones de usuarios especializados, la web se apresta a dar un pequeño pero transcendental paso en la forja de una biblioteca universal inteligente, distinta a las gigantescas y antidiluvianas actuales (libros impresos). Más que disponer de una superbiblioteca universal en cada casa, la web semántica se apresta a satisfacer nuestras crecientes necesidades. Usando ontologias, representaciones formales de conceptos, relaciones entre estos, links a webs relacionadas, podcasts multimedia, imágenes digitales, videos, tags semánticos adheridos a artículos. Capacidad para revisar y corregir la información cuando sea necesaria, comprender diferentes nomenclaturas expresantes de las mismas ideas. Algunos usamos ya este tipo de web aunque a paso de tortuga de acuerdo a las disponibilidades tecnológicas disponibles.

Aunque la meta es disponer de una web semántica que lea, comprenda y categorice la información más allá de nuestras solicitudes, esta requiere de un nivel de IA, no disponible aún. Deborah McGuinness, (Tetherless World Constellation) y Jim Hendler (Rensselaer computer and cognitive sciences), sostienen que el objetivo es visitar un sitio escribir la información requerida dejando al software de ontología y semántica el resto. Las bases de datos masivas deberán desarrollar ontologias de información más accesibles (prepacked). Asimismo deberá producirse un cambio en la forma como los catalogos organizan sus datos para facilitar a investigadores altamente especializados una búsqueda más intuitiva con preguntas en lenguajes más naturales, dada la heterogeneidad de las diferentes bases de datos. Uno de los objetivos es compartir recursos y establecer colaboración entre diferentes disciplinas científicas, interconectadas cotidianamente.
