MUMMIFICATION
Although long time has elapsed mummification methods used by Egyptians are not known exactly. In 1994, the total body of a 70 year-old man died of heart attack, was mummified by Ronald Wade (Maryland Medical School) and the egiptólogist Bob Brier (Long Iceland University.), following strictly that described by Heredotus in relation to possible Egyptian techniques. Brier prayed and placed Egyptian amulets to the interior of 9 kgs of fine white bandage.
Now, researchers from Zurich try to reconstruct with varied luck, Egyptian techniques. Frank Rühli (Anatomical Institute/U. of Zurich/Swiss/Mummy Project), mummified the legs of a woman recently deceased based on written descriptions of Heredotus (2500 years B.C.). For it he immersed a leg during 70 days, in 60 kgs of a mixture of salts, in order to dehydrating the leg. Unfortunately, 3 months later the mummification had not been completed: leg and foot were too rigid. Nevertheless the intention of Ruhli, is to see how it is modified the body after mummification, what happens to the DNA and how much the original morphology can be restored after rehydration.

MOMIFICACION
