Science and Science fiction

The British newspaper The Guardian has made a selection of the 10 better films of science fiction of the last 60 years. It heads the ready one : Blade Runner (1982.Ridley Scott), film adaptation of the book: " Do Androids Dream of electric sheep?, of Philip K. Dicks, in which the history of 4 cloned humanoids (replicants), planned to live alone 4 years, is related. These, like cannon fodder, were employed by the humans to colonize dangerous planets. To this end, genetic engineers, endowed them of similar intelligence to the human, included artificial emotional additives. After a certain interval of time, a group of them rebels, returning to the Earth to require their creator -a brilliant genetic engineer- prolong them the life. Having as fund visual futuristic images of LA (ricordos of Metropolis of Fritz Lang), associated to bored and misty sounds, the film while showing the extermination of the insurgents by hand of squadrons of the death (bladerunners), also showed the differences between humans and humanoids or machines and the significance to be a human beeing and its destiny. The other chosen movie to state of its brilliant special effects is Odyssey of the Space 2001 (1968 of Stanley Kubrick). Behind, them come: Star Wars, (1977-80. Confrontation among good and evil, in the hyperspace), Alien (1979.Ridley Scott. Extraterrestrial creature reproduces mixed pregnancy and performed attacks to space travellers), Solaris (1972. Andrei Tarkowsky. Psychologist that travels to a peripherical planet), Terminator (1984-1991. James Cameron. Travel to the past, by means of plots of the time), The day that the Earth stood still (1951. Extraterrestrial and his robot landed in Washington DC), War of the Worlds (1953. Martian invade the Earth), Matrix (1999. Andy and Larry Wachonsky. The world is like one want to see it. Artificial intelligence enslaves our planet). Closed encounters of the third type (1977. Steven Spielberg. Details of the encounter between two planetary civilizations).

The gaudy thing of this survey is that it was carried out exclusively among the better men of science of the present England. The polled, left to make out that books and films of science fiction, reflect the science and inspire them. That they subverted the science is clear, conditioning the expansion of biology, physics, chemistry, engineering, being in advance of the conception of spaceships, robots, wormholes, trips through the time, etc., becoming the impossible thing in possible. Besides to problematizing constantly the place of the humanity in the universe and the role of the science in the society, it is undeniable that sci-fi has influenced the creation of SETI (search of extraterrestrial intelligence) and the section of Astrobiology of the NASA. For us science is sometimes like a shirt of force of the one that we free us by means of sci-fi.

Ciencia y Ciencia ficcion

Andrei Tarkowsky. Psicologo viaja a planeta periferico), Terminator (1984-1991. James Cameron.
