In: The better angels of our nature, why violence has Declined, Steve Pinker Professor of Psychology at Harvard, argues that large segments of modern societies have become less violent, less cruel, more peaceful and more intelligent, than in any previous period of human existence, due to the increase of reason applied to a wide range of situations. Preventing violence gradually became a natural behavior thanks to the appearance of printing, the spread of culture, cities, travel through long distances and global communication. Pinker has analyzed the causes of deaths of people of ancient archaeological sites, noting that there, 15% died at the hands of others. In contrast deaths at the hands of others reached 5% during the Aztec empire and only 3% during the last 2 world wars. The installation of states reduced the violence (peace process).
