Sun eclipse, the fourth in 10 years.

On Wednesday (29/03/06), few minutes after the dawn began to be shown the concealment of the sunlight –in certain areas of the Earth- by interposition of the Moon (4th total eclipse of Sun in the last 10 years), the same that was overshadowing successively diverse areas of the planet. Beginning in northern Brazil, shadow and half-light advanced toward Africa : –Ghana, Nigeria, Niger, Chad- Greece, Turquia, Libya, Georgia, northern Caucaso, Siberia, Mongolia. As a whole, 50% of the planet, was overshadowed, along 3 hours. The maximum darkening (shadow), in determined terrestrial areas was swift, barely lasting 3 - 5 minutes, although the half-light was to remain to 55 minutes later. In that brief interim the temperature descended some 5 degrees in the area affected. Some animal became suddenly muted, those of diunal customs tried to be slept, in the meantime other became nervous. Concerning the people, some clapped, other were happy and even shouted enthusiastic when the sunlight reappeared. Some Christians and Moslem, prayed with geat faith

Historically the eclipses have come tied to cultural, religious and scientific aspects. The frequency of its apparitions permitted for example to ancient scientifics, to calculate in a simple way the distance from the Moon to the Earth. Even today, during the maximum solar concealment various unknown, indescribable and beautiful visual phenomena occur: the light of the horizon for example is illuminated of way desusual and seems to surround to the spectator, rare shadows appear in the flat and is possible to observe with clarity the golden halo (light of pearl), of the solar crown –normally little visible on account of the major brightness of the solar surface.

Cuarto eclipse solar

El miércoles (29/03/06), pocos minutos después del amanecer empezó a evidenciarse el ocultamiento de la luz del Sol –en ciertas áreas de la Tierra- por interposición de la Luna (4to eclipse total de Sol en 10 años), el mismo que fué oscureciendo sucesivamente diversas áreas del planeta. Empezando por el nordeste de Brasil, sombra y penumbra avanzaron hacia África: –Ghana, Nigeria, Níger, Chad- Grecia, Turquia, Libia, Georgia, Caucaso norte, Siberia, Mongolia. En conjunto el 50 % del planeta, fué oscurecido, a lo largo de 3 horas. El oscurecimiento máximo (sombra), en determinadas áreas terrestres fué raudo, apenas entre 3 - 5 minutos, aunque la penumbra permaneciera hasta 55 minutos después. En ese breve lapso la temperatura descendió unos 5 grados en el área afectada. Algunos animales enmudecian, los de costumbres diurnas volvian a dormirse, en tanto otros se ponian nerviosos. Tocante a las personas, algunos aplaudian, otros se alegraban y hasta gritaban entusiasmados cuando reaparecia la luz del Sol. Algunos cristianos y musulmanes, rezaban.

Históricamente los eclipses han venido atados a aspectos religiosos, culturales y cientificos. La periodicidad de sus apariciones le permitió por ejemplo a los antiguos, calcular de manera sencilla la distancia de la Luna a la Tierra. Aun hoy, durante el máximo ocultamiento solar ocurren varios fenómenos visuales, por estudiar, indescriptibles y bellos: la luz del horizonte por ejemplo se ilumina de manera desusual y parece rodear al espectador, aparecen sombras raras en el piso y es posible observar con nitidez el halo dorado (luz de perla), de la corona solar –normalmente poco visible a causa del mayor resplandor de la superficie solar.
