NEW PATTERN KILOGRAM

Until now the pattern-kilogram (a cylinder of platinum and iridium), located in Sevres, near Paris, remains immutable. However, this pattern loses more and more mass over the years. That being the case, "nobody knows what is one kilo," said the Nobel Prize of Physics: Klaus of Klitzing. For this reason, the Comite International des Poids et Mesures sponsored works towards establishing a new pattern-kilogram. The most interesting of these:Avogadro Project, tries to determine the total number of atoms contained in a kilo of silicon crystal balls, based on the fact that in the universe, all atoms are identical. One idea already raised in 1870, by Maxwell. A tentative figure in this respect is: 1 kilogram = 21.5 quadrillion atoms of silicon-28. If the projects were not successful, the Sevres pattern-kilo will continue as a standard.
NUEVO KILO PATRON
