To see better: optical fibers in human eye?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JadaWSDxBYk

German researchers -link- seem to have discovered why the light that enters into our eyes instead of being scattered and providing a blurred final image -crosses by the opposite- the different retinal layers, in direct and quick form, without dispersing maintaining their intensity and clearness. Usually we understood the vision as a process that allows that light rays that enter our eyes be transformed by cells sensible to the light into excitation of nervous cells transmitted to the brain. Now, neurophysiologists and physicists of the University of Leipzig, say that we see shrewdly and clearly thanks to the action of million cells of Muller (inner retinal layer) -link- that operating like smallest interconnected optical cable fibers -link-, transport directly the light from the anterior to the back retina, concentrating 3 times but light that the awaited one. When the investigators applied infrared laser light -link-to one cell of Muller, they observed that the cell transmitted the light to another near similar located in front of it, maintained only by physical interactions.
