HYPNOSIS : ANOTHER PLANE of CONCIOUSNESS?
Among the effects induced by hypnosis exist the possibility of curing certain illnesses, being important to this aim, to understand its functional mechanism. Hypnosis is a sui generis state of deep mental trance -induced or self-induced- with organized patterns of suggestions, usually verbal. During the trance -the subjects don't dream- they are awake listening carefully the voice, obeying its commands. Hypnosis induces changes in subjective experience, alterations in the perception, sensation, emotion, thought or behavior, facilitating body changes and even cure of certain illnesses. Nevertheless Michael Nash, described in the 2001, certain side-effects, when pointing out that hypnosis is capable of creating temporarily hallucinations, compulsions and absent memoirs, soon after finishing the trance state. Nicholas Spanos (U.Carleton/Ontario), assures that hypnotic procedures influence the behavior indirectly, altering the subject's motivations. Pierre Janet, says that during hypnosis happens a dissociation of the conscience, thanks to which certain areas that control individual behaviour, are separated from ordinary conscience. To remove certain control of the conscious mind, would allow an individual to respond with autonomous, reflexive behaviours.
After analyzing frmi images, John Gruzelier proved that subjects highly susceptible to hypnosis, showed great cerebral activity in the anterior cingulate girus and in the left prefrontal cortex. Certain theory, sustains that hypnotist uses messages similar to radio signals, selecting those that are not affected by interferences. Joseph Green (U/Ohio State), agrees in that hypnosis is an altered state of the conscience, because it differs in quality from the ordinary conscience, being carried out impossible things (certain cures), in state of awareness. For Milton Erickson, hypnosis has unique signals: posthipnótic amnesia and literalism (answers: yes-not). According to Martin Orne, hypnotized subjects also experience logical trances (sustain at the same time, 2 ideas mutually inconsistents).
