Pewter Brown y Mike Morwood, son 2 de los cientificos de la New England University de Australia, que el año pasado :2004, http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3960001.stm, descubrieron en una cueva de caliza, en la isla Liang Bua (isla de la Flores), en Java (Indonesia) : 1, de 7 esqueletos (hominidos?, humanos?), sui generis, con las siguientes caracteristicas : 1) hembra, con una talla de 1 metro 2) capacidad craneal = 380 cm3 3) brazos extremadamente largos 4) dientes premolares inferiores, con 2 raices gemelas (en lugar del único, usual, en humanos). 5) rasgos faciales intermedios entre simios y humanos. Dataciones de carbono, han calculado la emergencia y vigencia del propuesto Homo floresiensis, entre los 95 000-12 000 años a.C..

Se piensa que H.floresiensis, es un descendiente directo del H. erectus (1,9 millones de años a.C. Capacidad craneal :900 cm3), devenido en pequeño por evolución natural, a función de la escaséz de recursos naturales en la isla. Algunos piensan el H.floresiensis, se extinguió hace 12 000 años, a causa de una masiva erupción volcánica. Los lugareños que los nombran como Ebu Gogo, aseguran que habla murmurando, es peludo y todavia vive en ciertos paisajes inexplorados de la isla. Existen 3 temas a discutir aqui:

1) Este H.floresiensis, cazaba y empleaba piedras altamente elaboradas, para su defensa y ataque, todo ello fabricado por él, con sus apenas 380 cm3 de capacidad craneal (algo menor al de los chimpancés : 420 cm3). La pregunta obvia es ¿que tamaño de cerebro necesitamos para funcionar como humanos? ¿O lo unico que importa es la calidad cerebral? Hay que recordar que en algun momento los cerebros de algunos H.neardentales, llegaron a pesar 2000 cm3 (un poco más, que los actuales 1500 cm3) y, no por eso fueron mas eficientes.

2) Lo segundo tiene que ver con la confirmación del empleo -no de uno-, sino de varios diseños tendientes a la forja de seres humanos. Como si la anética selección natural, intuyese que solo uno de ellos iba a sobrevivir. Ya saben quien fué el vencedor : el Homo sapiens sapiens, o sea nosotros. Un diseño importante, paralelo a la emergencia del H.s.sapiens actual, correspondió al de los H.neardentales (hombres rudos, bizarros,fortachones), extinguidos hace 27 000 años, al parecer por difucltades para articular palabras, lo que les impedia comunicarse con fluidéz en misiones colectivas importantes, como la caza. 3) Finalmente el hallazgo nos permite especular en torno al tamaño de especies y disponibilidad alimenticia. Una hipótesis sugiere que el gran tamaño alcanzado por los dinosaurios se debió a la presencia ilimitada de recursos naturales en esa época. Los hallazgos en la isla de Flores (en la que existia escaséz de recursos naturales), originó sin embargo resultados diversos De un lado, en ella se encuentran : tortugas y lagartijas gigantes. Del otro, el pequeño H. floresiensis descrito y muchos Stegodon (elefantes enanos), al parecer cazados por estos pequeños hombrecitos. En resumidas cuentas, algunos eslabones perdidos, habrian vivido largo tiempo y, hasta existiria la posibilidad de que algunos esten vivos. Y, el Hombre de las Nieves (Yeti)?.
