EU: Yes to Turquey or, die (UE:Sí, a Turquía o, morir).

One of the news of greater political importance in the last 10 days, is without doubt the beginning of the conversations that would make possible the entrance of Turkey -with full duties and rights to European Union (EU), integrated at the moment by 25 countries. It has been necessary that 40 years pass and that England assumes the presidency of the EU, so that this possibility acquires consistency. Still today, the rejection continues and comes fundamentally from Austria, Germany, France and, from its two old territorial enemies: Cyprus and Greece, that argue: 1) that 98% of the Turks, profess the Islam, a religion quite different from the agreed one by most of European 2) having numerous population:70 million, of which 50%, are smaller of 25 years 3) fear of which some Turks could be terrorist fundamentalists 4) judicial code based on customs or, religious justifications, more than in the reason 5) fort is present at military man in the decisions of the state 6) fear to profit the European wealth, on the part of the poverty ones, and enormous Turkish masses. 7) little respect to the human rights (14 million Kurds, without rights in Turkey).
Despite it, Turkey enjoys the total support and esteem of England, supported by Hungary, Portugal and Spain, that see in: 1) the young turk labor force, a renewed energy for the aged European population. 2) a strong antifundamentalist wall 3) an extensive horizontal market 4) extensive European armies, fueled with Turkish young people. To English and Spanish does not worry to them, in extremis, the Islam. They assume that this one can be overcome without difficulty, by the benefits economic to gather and, of which already forms part : 4 million Turks scattered by all Europe.
Obvious, some problems exist to solve. First it is the total adhesion from Turkey to all treaties guaranteed by the UE (Turkey, already accepted the letter of intention). In addition, to abolish the capital punishment, to incorporate all the European standards in the matter of justice and human rights, not to sanction hard, the cases of adultery, to make possible a free press, to eradicate the police torture and to grant full rights to the Kurd minority. Also, to commit itself to support its old enemy: Cyprus, so that it continues in NATO. Although the Turkish population mainly supports the entrance of its mother country to the UE, distrusts, do not see with good eyes, to the Austrian-French-German, opposition, of which it does not wait for anything good. There is hope, but also distrust, by the problems to restore itself from inside.

As we specified in a previous article ("The two faces of Jano".06/07/2005), the subject of Turkish integration to Europe is not a Turkish problem, is an European problem For the EU, the subject is to make possible the entrance of Turkey now or, to die. An isolated, old Europe, old fashioned, will not be able to compete with the USA, always young and renewed or, against both emergent bulldogs :China and India. The times have changed. The subject matters, because to be solved in favorable form it will have a gravitant effect beyond Europe. It would an irrefutable argument, so that the USA assimilate with fullness of rights to mexican, argentinian, chilean (to all country that is ordered), etc. Thus it will have to be, the wheel of history cannot stop.
