Illegal human experiments

It is an ugly news, but it is uglier when the suspicion of an anethic an irrational human experiment (in children) begins to become into a devil reality. In 1996, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the giant American pharmaceutical Pfizer decided to give voluntary help to Kano (Nigeria), where a combined lethal epidemic bud of Measles, Cholera and Meningitis killed to more than 3000 people. In these circumstances, researchers of Pfizer prescribed Trovan/Floxacin (trovafloxacin mesylate: fluoroquinolone, that stops the bacterial multiplication impeding the reproduction and repair of their DNAs. The drug is used to treat : sinusitis, bronchitis, gonorrhea, pneumonia and is not very employee against bacterial meningitis. Side effects: hypersensitivity, agranulocitosis, tonic-clónics seizures, pseudomembranous colitis, pancreatitis, renal and hepatic inadequacy, leucopenia, trombocitopenia, hemolytic anemia), to Nigerian children affected of bacterial meningitis. Completed the treatments, 11 children died and 189 suffered by symptoms related to meningitis : deafness, blindness, disorientation and inability to walk, as it consists in the files of the transnational one. Now (2007), the Muslim Nigerian state has sued before the Supreme Court of Kano (Nigeria), to Pfizer to use secretely to 200 children like guinea pigs to whom they administered Trovan Floxacin, under the guise of a humanitarian help. The Nigerian authorities demand 2,75 billion dollars to Pfizer, to repair damages, to establish continuous medical treatments and to prohibit human illegal experimentation that could carry out Pfizer in any other place of the world. Washington Post journalists, suspicion that similar cases are happening in Africa, Asia, eastern Europe, and Latin America. Will the Nigerian government win?.

Although by the light of the following evidences, Nigeria should win, it is obvious that the economic enormous might of Pfizer, will at the end be decisive.1) Pfizer has recognized that the medication was never proven in children because bacterial meningitis is strange, in USA.2) Pfizer usually prepares its protocols in 1 year.In this case they made it in 6 weeks.3) Most American children with meningitis receive intravenous medicines of fast action. Nigerian children received oral forms of Trovan Floxacin.4) Alternative drugs existed like Cloramfenicol, internationally recommended to combat bacterial meningitis. 5) There were not contracts of volunteer informed consent.6) The company adduces that this experiment was justified because the given horrendous conditions, the numbers of achieved survivers and frequency of death (6%). The reality, is that Pfizer never received necessary approval for conducer the work. When it faced an audit of their registrations in 1997, taken up for FDA, they said that their protocol had been approved by the Committee of Ethics of the Hospital of Kano/Nigeria. The certain thing is that the Hospital lacked a Committee of Ethics. 7) they didn't carry out lumbar punction to diagnoses and control the bacterial meningitis cases.8) It was not explained to child’s parents that the proposed treatment was experimental, and that they were free of accepting or not the same one, or to choose alternative and sure treatments, offered free at the same time. According to Nuremberg Code (1947) and Helsinki Declaration, the risks, purposes and methods of the study should be explained before to parents or close relatives. 9) In 1999, american authorities advised to retire Trova Floxacin in adults because it damaged their livers and some patients died. 10) At the end Pfizer use Nigerian children affected of bacterial meningitis to drive experiments in the belief that Trovafloxacin, was a breaktrough antibiotic. Analysts of Wall Street had predicted that the drug could generate 1 billion dollars in the first year if Trovan, demonstrated its effectiveness.

Experimentos humanos ilegales

Reacciones adversas: hipersensibilidad, agranulocitosis, convulsiones tónico-clónicas, colitis seudomembranosa, pancreatitis, insuficiencia renal y hepática, leucopenia, trombocitopenia, anemia hemolítica), a niños nigerianos afectos de meningitis.
