GLOBAL GLACIERS MELTING

Peru is yet known as the country with bigger quantity of glaciers in tropical areas of Latin America. But with the climatic change, Lima and other areas of the Peruvian coast begin to feel the impact of the thaw of glaciers. Several glaciers that fed the river Rimac, main source of water of Lima, have disappeared. Julio García emphasizes that Lima, "faces a critical situation because of the thaw of the glaciers". The city already receives -through tunnels- water coming from the basin of the Amazons". According to the expert, the desalinizatión of seawater is one of future alternatives for consumption water". For the present the glacier Pastoruri (Huaraz/Perú), has lost in ten years 40% of its surface. Brolli, another glacier (Huaraz/Perú), disappeared the 2006 completely. The globalization of the phenomenon is visualized in the dramatic break of ice layers in the artic, discovered recently for a Canadian military mission that identified 16 km of new fractures of ice in Ward Hunt, in the north of Canada. Derek Mueller (Trent University/Ontario), says "when the ice is fractured appear floating in the ocean, islands of ice". The artic climatic change mobilizes other changes. The Russian get ready to exploit the oil and gas stored in the artic, operation difficult to carry out before, because of the ice.
