HEART PATCHES

Israelis bioengineers have carried out with success a simple but highly effective therapeutic procedure that will benefit patients that suffer of heart infarcts (death of heart tissue). The procedure supposes the construction of patches of heart tissue starting from neonatal heart cells of rats, mixed with survival and angiogenic factors in a scaffold of macroporous alginate capable of sustaining unions and liberations of mixed factors, during 48 hs. I order the patch acquires mature vasculature it is transplanted in the 3d day to rat’s omentum remaining there 7 days. Then it is explanted and transplanted into infarcted hearts of rats under study. 28 days later the vascularized heart patch showed structural and electric integration to myocardium, generating thicker scars that impede further dilatation of chambers and ventricular dysfunction. A process easy to carry out in humans.
