CARNIVOROUS PLANTS





New species of meat-eating plants that can gobble giant rats have been found in high altitude areas in central Philippines on the island of Palawan. One has been named called Nepenthes attenboroughii as the English broadcaster David Attenborough. The plants inhabit areas of 1600 m above sea level. Some have sticky surfaces, closing its leaves when the prey is inside. They have also cup-shaped structures within which are trapped insects and other animals.

Nuevas especies de plantas carnívoras gigantes capaces de engullir ratas, han sido descubiertas en áreas de gran altitud en Filipinas central, en la isla de Palawan. Una de ellas ha sido denominada Nepenthes attenboroughii como el broadcaster inglés David Attenborough. Las plantas habitan áreas a 1600 m sobre el nivel del mar, algunas tienen superficies pegajosas, cerrando sus hojas cuando la presa esta adentro. Disponen asimismo de estructuras en forma de copa dentro de la cual son atrapados insectos y otros animales.
