EUTHANASIA IN DEUTSCHLAND

In Germany, people’s right to self-determination and euthanasia with medical consent, is a current matter because according to surveys 1/3 of registered German doctors would agree to helping patients to die. Jörg Dietrich Hoppe, President of the Medical Association of Germany considers that any german physician that wants to help to induce euthanasia, can do that. However, Hoppe explained that the survey only confirms that the vast majority of doctors understand the suffering and suicidal wishes of terminally ill patients, but a real contribution is unclear. In any case most of German doctors rejects this attitude. Hoppe argues that suicide is not something that necessarily be attributed to doctors. Any terminal patient can establish a relationship of trust with other people and decide their death. Finally Hoppe believes that if the medical attitude to help a person to commit suicide would be majority it would damage the physician-patient relationship. Hoppe says that although most physicians support the practice of euthanasia most not practice it, because they will receive sanctions from their unions and society.

EUTANASIA EN ALEMANIA

En Alemania, el derecho a la autodeterminación de los pacientes y la eutanasia con consentimiento médico, es tema del día ya que según encuestas realizadas, hasta 1/3 de los médicos alemanes registrados estarían de acuerdo con ayudar a morir a pacientes deshauciados. Jörg Dietrich Hoppe Presidente del Colegio Médico de Alemania opina que el que quiera ayudar a suicidas, puede hacerlo. Pese a ello, Hoppe aclara que la encuesta solo confirma que una amplia mayoría de médicos comprende el sufrimiento y los deseos suicidas de los desahuciados, aunque una contribución real no es clara. En todo caso la mayoría de los médicos alemanes rechaza esta actitud. Hoppe, sostiene que el suicidio no es algo que necesariamente deba atribuirse a los médicos. Cualquier paciente terminal puede establecer una relación de confianza con otras personas y decidir su muerte. Finalmente Hoppe opina que si la actitud médica de ayudar a una persona a suicidarse fuese mayoritaria dañaría la relación médico paciente. Hoppe dice que aunque mas médicos apoyan la la eutanasia no la practican porque recibirían sanciones de sus gremios y la sociedad.
