For the cosmologist and astrophysicist Martin John Rees (Cambridge University), to send human to the space is folly and a lost of money. According to his opinion, future human bases in the Moon and Mars will be built by robots, due to recent advances in technology and robotics. The whole solar system will be explored by robots' flotillas. Manned trips will explore the space but for adventure than for practical reasons. Prove of it is the recent cancellation of Constellation Program (return to the Moon), announced by Barack Obama, because we have already been there. For it, Rees recommends european scientists to focus in miniaturization and robotics to be competitive in the space career dominated by Russia and USA.

The current development of GPS, climatic and communications satellites, probes to other planets, etc., turn unnecessary manned trips with human beings. NASA’s Kepler Observatory Space and satellites Herschel and Planck of European Space Agency (ESA), examine the space efficiently. Kepler satellite discovers suns and planets similar to the earth, in such a way that although we don't know how life began in the earth, in 20 years, we will have a better idea on what places of the cosmos to look for. Planck satellite of ESA, examines the radiation emitted after the Big Bang to have a but clear understanding of early universe. Herschel satellite investigates the formation of stars and galaxies examining their wavelenght. The images of the telescope Hubble of the surfaces of Mars, Jupiter, Titan, were robotically obtained. Another supposition of Rees is to believe that aliens could be in front of our noses, not being recognized due to our marked anthropocentrism. Another idea is to suppose that starting from now, the possibility of total destruction of the Earth or to survive, is 50-50%.

Otra suposición de Rees es creer que algunos aliens podrian estar frente a nuestras narices, no siendo reconocidos en razón de nuestro marcado antropocentrismo.
