I have listened many histories related to bathrooms, to…. interior baths of domestic houses, is understood. A definition, popular and very Peruvian that left me scratching the coconut (brain), is that which establishes value judgments for the house's owners to function of the comfort, neatness, function, esthetics and conditions of the baths, offered to their guests…." the party was chévere (very good), but the bath left much to be desired, it was very dirty" …" …." sure that the owners, are also dirty" ….Right, at least for the common one of the mortals, the bath status of the house means family order. If the bathroom exhibited comforts and neatness, the visitors condecorate mentally to the house's owners, if not…. Concrete: ..." The house is judged by the bathroom" …at to say of many. If there are not guests and alone remains the couple or the family, then we pass to speak of personal hygiene and satisfaction of physiological needs, although to tell the truth, the bathrooms should aspire to greater instances: Personal relaxation, spaces for the good one to live, etc.
Of them can give account the famous Baths (Peruvian prehispanic), of the Inca http://www.traficoperu.com/ESPANOL/ciud4.htm one (Atahualpa:1532 a.C.), perfectly conserved until today. In Cajamarca-Peru (2500 msnm), the Inca used to be bathed in extensive spaces, rectangle excavated : 1,5 meters of depth and 5 x 2 meters of long and wide, respectively, assortments of continuous with temperate water originated in natural thermal water, that abound there, with vapor and many minerals. In the exterior part of the Baths of the Inca, open spaces with banking carved in stone, reflex peacefully the natural light, inviting to the relaxation and rest, a concept advanced for that time. Like the Roman thermal baths, the Baths of the Inca, were also a space to chat, to negotiate, to make love and occasionally even for conspire.
Nothing that to see with the classics small spaces (toilet + handbasin + shower with plastic curtains), present at home and small departments disseminated throughout the western world, planned to satisfy almost to exclusivity biological needs. Other unite bathrooms to bedrooms (master tubs, master bedrooms), add adaptations to facilitate consumptions of coffee or http://www.us.kohler.com/index.jsp breakfasts, to read or to be conveniently sat down in banking of wood and to talk with he (she), on the day after day things. In short the concept of a bathroom as a space to carry out biological needs begins to be revised, leading to another, the one that these should serve -besides it- to be relaxed and to be renewed spiritually. The bathrooms have not to be necessarily those small spaces, dark, monochromatic, hidden, in permanent low value.

Paz espiritual y baños
He escuchado muchas historias en relación a baños, a….baños interiores de casas domésticas, se entiende. Una definición, popular y muy peruana que me dejó rascando el coco, es aquella que establece juicios de valor para los huéspedes a función del confort, aseo, funcionabilidad, estética y condiciones de los baños, ofertados a los invitados ….”la fiesta estuvo chévere (muy buena), pero el baño dejó mucho que desear, estaba muy sucio”…” ….”seguro que los dueños, son también sucios”….Definitivo, para el común de los mortales, el baño refleja el status de la casa y, de paso, el bienestar y orden familiar. Si el baño exhibió comodidades y aseo, los invitados condecoran mentalmente a los huéspedes, si no….Concreto: ...”la casa es juzgada por el baño”…al decir de muchos. Si no hay invitados y solo queda la pareja o, la family, entonces pasamos a hablar de aseo personal y satisfacción de necesidades fisiológicas, aunque a decir verdad, los baños debiesen aspirar a instancias mayores : relajación personal, espacios para el buen vivir, etc.
De ello pueden dar cuenta los célebres Baños del Inca (Atahualpa:1532 d.C.), perfectamente conservados hasta hoy. En Cajamarca-Perú (2500 msnm), los incas solian bañarse en espacios amplios, excavados cuadriculadamente: 1,5 metros de profundidad y 5 x 2 metros de largo y ancho, respectivamente, surtidos de continuo con agua temperada procedente de aguas termales naturales, que abundan por alli, con vapor y muchos minerales. En la parte exterior de los Baños del Inca, espacios abiertos con bancas talladas en piedra, esparcian pacíficamente la luz natural, invitando a la relajación y reposo. Si nó el verdadero, un concepto avanzado para ese entonces. Al igual que los baños termales romanos, los Baños del Inca, eran también un espacio para charlar, negociar, hacer el amor y ocasionalmente hasta para conspirar.
Nada que ver con los clásicos pequeños espacios (toilet + lavamanos + ducha con cortinas plastificadas), presentes en casas y pequeños departamentos diseminados a lo largo y ancho del mundo occidental, planificados para satisfacer casi a exclusividad necesidades biológicas. Ahora que veo fotos y leo : …”For the busy couple, A bathroom break” (21/7/06), del NewYorkTimes, valoro los concepto incas, porque hoy, americanos de clase media y alta al igual que en otras partes del mundo empiezan a repensar la función de los baños, ocurriendo que hoy algunos americanos están construyendo bañeras extensas (tubs), para que un pareja cómodamente instalada en ella (sin tener que doblar las rodillas), conversen cara a cara mientras se bañan, conectando al 100%, su intimidad. Otros unen baños a dormitorios (master tubs, master bedrooms), adicionan adecuaciones para facilitar ingestas de café o desayunos, leer o sentarse cómodamente en bancas de madera y conversar con el (la), consorte sobre el dia a dia. En suma el concepto de baño como espacio para realizar necesidades biológicas y asearse empieza a revisarse, dando paso a otro concepto, el que éstos debiesen servir -además de ello- para relajarse y renovarse espiritualmente. Los baños no tienen que ser necesariamente esos pequeños espacios, oscuros, monócromos, escondidos, en minusvalia permanente.
