BRAIN NEUROPLASTICITY

Left: Training and brain neuroplasticity. Taken from Derspiegel.

Until about 20 years ago every time that a person suffered a stroke (loss of brain functions by deficit of blood brain supply), associated to hemiplegia (paralysis of one hemibody), physiotherapy that lasted 3 hours daily, was intended to offset the deficit, the patient recovering some of the lost function, including a better speech. In recent years some countries like Cuba, increased the number of hours of physiotherapy (up to 10 hours a day), achieving an aggregate improvement of the motor function loss, but without a thorough understanding of the fundamentals of such achievement. Edward Taub and other neuroscientists in the world, have begun to revolutionize the treatment of this devastating disease with new goals and visions. They assume that they are able to achieve full restoration of those affected people creating new brain áreas in orer to replace the losses. Based on brain neuroplasticity (which according to them, has no age), they have increased the number of hours and and complexity of the physiotherapy, showing the formation of new gray substance gray, double electric potential, higher number of neurons in the new brain áreas and an almost complete recovery of lost motor function.
NEUROPLASTICIDAD CEREBRAL
