HAITI EARTHQUAKE

Although the recent earthquake with epicentre in Port Prince (Haiti), had the same characteristics (magnitude: 7.0 + seismological fault + tectonic slip) that the one happened recently in California and other places -most geologists, including Robert Yeats (Oregon State University)- estimate to that of Haiti like a great earthquake for: 1) The seismological fault (Enriquillo-Plaintain Garden Fault), is located to 10 km deep and 16 km of distance from Port Prince, in the intersection of the Caribbean tectonic badge (7 mm slips per year eastwaed, for 200 years), over the North American, accumulating great pressure, fracturing the terrestrial bark, shaking all Haiti 2) The great populational density of Haiti associated to thousands of very bad built houses 3) Not existence of nets of social services: first aids, survival, evacuation.

4) the massive presence in Haiti of loose floors with abundant sediments, appropriate for the dissemination of destructive waves of earthquakes. To remember that the north of Teheran, Lima-Peru, Karachi, Pakistan, Turkia, etc, have the same characteristics that Haiti. An earthquake implies sudden energy liberation along a seismological fault of the terrestrial bark, fractured before the stress. Under the principle that an earthquake can activate seismological faults in near or distant places, it is thought that in the following 20-40 years, Republic Dominican, other areas of Haiti and Jamaica will suffer new earthquakes.
