For Rosenblum this illusion can be explained by neuroplasticity (brain adaptation to the experience). We think that the brain has a very thorough virtual body image such that when one loses a limb, the brain thinks it is unnecessary to remove this representation of his virtual body holistic map, established since childhood.

Para Rosenblum esta ilusión se explica por neuroplasticidad (adaptación cerebral a la experiencia). Nosotros pensamos que el cerebro tiene un esquema corporal muy minucioso tal que cuando se pierde un miembro, el cerebro estima innecesario eliminar esta representación de su mapa corporal virtual ya que alteraría la visión holística corporal establecida desde la infancia.
