LES WOULD PROTECT AGAINST BRAIN MALARIA

Although until recently were unknown the causes of Systemic Lupus Erythematous (SLE, autoimmune disease), it was known that SLE has a higher prevalence (6-8 times) in women of African descent living outside Africa and relatively rare in African women living in Africa. In this regard, Michael Waisberg, Silvia Bolland and colleagues (Cambridge Institute for Medical Research), say after studying mice deficient in FcγRIIB or Toll-like overexpressed receptors 7 –with states like LES. That’s to say : LES autoantibodies were created initially to fight against cerebral malaria in African women. In absence of Malaria due to Plasmodium falciparum (Pf), the autoantibodies inherited, would have caused SLE in women of African descent living outside Africa. Recall that African black people living in Africa are also protected from malaria adopting heterozygous state (Hb-S) of abnormal hemoglobins.
