NEW OVA AFTER BIRTH?

Kang Ji Zou and Wu (Shanghai Jiao Tong University), showed that young and adult mice are able to produce eggs after birth. Until recently it was thought that during the formation of the embryo, was formed also a finite number of ova to be used throughout the reproductive life of a mouse. The researchers scanned the ovaries of a mouse, searching producing cells of vasa, a homologous protein, found in germ cell lines. Extracted, the cells were cultured in the laboratory, adding genes that gave them green fluorescent hues, finally injecting the cells between the layers of germ cells from the ovaries of a group of mice whose own eggs had been killed. Green newborn mice are supposed to be produced by the inserted germ cells, says the authors being evidence of generation of new eggs after birth, which will be useful in treatment of infertility at any age.
